Jordan Genealogy - VA
Welcome to my Jordan genealogy pages. I am interested in the Jordan surname in Virginia, mainly in the Essex and Caroline County region, at least until I learn more about where mine came from.
The Jordan surname, although Hebrew in origin, is generally thought to be of English ancestry, at least in my case.
Jordan was the 105th most common surname in the United States in 2000. By 2010 it had dropped somewhat to 116th.
My most recent Jordan ancestor is my seven times Great Grandmother, Mary Jordan (c1704-1750/55) who married John George (1704-1784) ca 1724 likely in Essex Co., VA. She died in the early 1750s in Caroline Co., VA.
Mary’s parents aren’t yet known. There were several Jordan families she could be connected to, but nothing has been proven thus far, to my knowledge.
