Welcome to my Moody genealogy pages. I am interested in the Moody surname in Surry Co., NC and nearby. That area of interest may expand once I’ve learned more about my Moody ancestry. As of now I know very little.

Moody was the 479^th most common surname in the United States in 2000. By 2010 it had dropped to 519^th.

My most recent Moody ancestor is my 4 times Great Grandmother Arabella Moody (c1803-aft 1880). She was born in Franklin Co., GA. She married Caleb Winfrey (c1800-1860s) ca 1821 in Surry Co.,NC. They both died in Cherokee Co., NC. I don’t have absolute proof, but I believe she’s a child of John and Mary (Roberts) Moody.

John Moody (c1765/84-c1810s) (** old page **) was in Georgia by ca 1801 and probably married Mary Roberts there ca 1802. Not too long after marriage they moved to Surry Co., NC, which is where her family had been prior to Georgia, his too perhaps. He died in the 1810s in Surry. She died there in the 1840s. I do not know who John Moody’s parents were.
