My Murphy ancestry begins with Mary Murphy (c1771-aft 1850) who married Aaron Wright 1792 in Surry Co., NC. They moved to Lincoln Co., KY shortly afterwards, but didn't stay long, returning to Surry Co., NC until Aaron's death. After that Mary moved to Union Co., GA. Mary is a daughter of Capt. Richard Murphy (c1730-aft 1810) and Keziah Terry. Richard was from Halifax and Pittsylvania Co., VA and Surry Co., NC. Later he moved to Lincoln Co., KY and remained in that state until his death. I don't know who Richard's parents are.
