Noden Genealogy - Caroline Co., VA
Welcome to my Noden genealogy pages. I am mainly interested in a particular Noden family who resided in Caroline Co., VA, perhaps arriving there from England. I have not come across many others of this surname outside of my own ancestors.
Noden is an English surname found in Cheshire, London and Yorkshire. It’s a very rare name in the United States. There were none listed on the 1790 through 1840 censuses. A few appeared on the 1850 census being recent immigrants from England, Ireland and Wales.
My most recent Noden ancestor is my six times great grandmother Elizabeth Noden, born ca 1739 in Caroline Co., VA. She married James George ca late 1750s. They resided in Caroline until ca 1770 when they moved to Pittsylvania Co., VA where he died in 1799, and she ca 1802. Elizabeth Noden George is a daughter of:
Hugh Noden, born ca 1700, probably in England, and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth (—) (married ca late 1730s). They resided in Caroline Co., VA where Hugh died in 1751. After Hugh’s death, Elizabeth married a Mr. Peay before 1762. After his death, Elizabeth married William Southworth between 1773 and 1782, in Caroline Co. VA.
I don’t know who Hugh Noden’s parents were. There were several men of this name found in London records, one of whom might be our Hugh.
