Pemberton Genealogy - VA, TN
Welcome to my Pemberton genealogy pages. I am interested in the Pemberton surname in Virginia and Tennessee and certain other states to some extent.
Pemberton didn’t make the Top 1000 surname lists in the United States for 2000 or 2010.
My most recent Pemberton ancestor is my 5 times Great Grandmother Elizabeth Pemberton (1772-1802) who was born in Culpeper Co., VA. She moved with her family to Sullivan Co., TN where she married James Jordan George (1761-1824) ca 1788. She died in Sullivan Co., TN in 1802, aged 29. She is a proven child of John and Elizabeth (Delaney) Pemberton.
John Pemberton (1742-1813) was probably born in Virginia somewhere. He resided in Culpeper Co., VA where he married Elizabeth Delaney (1746-1812). They moved to north east Tennessee ca 1780 when the area was still part of North Carolina, and is now Sullivan Co., TN. I have not determined who his parents were yet.
Though his parents aren’t known, it appears he has two brothers, George Pemberton (c1744-1804) and William Pemberton (c1750-1814), all of whom were associated with each other.
