Saunders / Sanders Genealogy - Marion Co., SC
Welcome to my Saunders / Sanders genealogy pages. I am interested in these surnames in Marion Co., SC and that general area.
Saunders was the 421st most common surname in the United States in 1990, Sanders was more common at 70th. By 2000 Saunders had dropped to 439th, Sanders to 88th. By 2010 both had dropped again, Saunders at 476th and Sanders at 94th.
My most recent Saunders ancestor is my six times great grandmother, Kesiah Saunders, wife of James Crawford. They married 15 Sep 1739 at Prince Frederick Parish in what was then Craven Co., SC. I don’t know when she was born, though before ca 1723 assuming at least 16 when she married.
Her parents are unknown, though she *might* be a child of John Saunders who was in the region in the 1730s. Of course that could be her brother instead of father. I do believe they are closely related as both were in the Sandy Bluff settlement.
