Welcome to my Wood genealogy pages. I am interested in the Wood (and Woods) surname in Marion Co., SC and that general area.
Wood was the 75th most common surname in the United States in 2000. By 2010 it had dropped slightly to 84th. Woods was the 133rd most common surname in the United States in 2000. By 2010 it had dropped to 144th.
My most recent Wood ancestor is my maternal 4 times great grandmother Ann Wood (1784/90-1841) who married James James ca 1808 in Marion Dist., SC. He died there in the 1830s and she in 1841. Ann is a proven daughter of John and Sarah B. (—) Wood.
John Wood (bef 1750-1808) married Sarah B. (—) (c1749-1837), when or where is unknown. She might be his second wife as records show a John Wood(s) with wife Catherine in the area in the 1770s. It could be a different John Wood though. John and Sarah had six children.
I don’t know who John’s parents were.
