Braddy Genealogy - North Carolina
Welcome to my Braddy genealogy pages. I am interested in the Braddy surname in North Carolina, specifically the Duplin and Wayne County area of eastern North Carolina
Braddy is generally an English surname. Although “Brady” is similar, they aren’t the same surname, though of course Braddy is sometimes misspelled as Brady. Braddy is pronounced Brad-ee, whereas Brady is Bray-dee.
Braddy did not make the list of the top 1000 most common surnames in the United States in 2000 or 2010. However, Brady was 411th in 2000 and 450th in 2010.
My most recent Braddy ancestor is my 5 times great grandmother Phereby Braddy (1770/75-1840s). Her name is “Fairlise” on her earliest records, “Phereby” on her final records. Phereby married first a Mr. Ayers, then 2nd to Henry Hobson (bef 1765-c1815) in 1801 in Duplin Co., NC. They lived there and in Wayne Co., NC where both died. I don’t know for certain, but I think she’s a daughter of Stephen Braddy.
Stephen Braddy (c1750s-aft 1802) resided in Duplin Co., NC. I haven’t yet identified his first wife, nor parents. His 2nd wife was Sarah Williams.
