Hensley Census Records - Rowan Co., NC Tax List 1768
[Hensley Home] - [Census Records] - Rowan Co., NC
Rowan County was formed in 1753 from Anson and Orange counties. At its creation, it extended to the western frontier of the state.
Hensleys appeared here on the 1768 tax list. I believe they were in the Dan River area of what is now Stokes County, but then still part of Rowan, which bordered what is now Patrick Co., VA, but was then Pittsylvania County. There were several county changes in this area so it can be confusing:
NC Side - Rowan formed 1753, Surry 1770/71, Stokes 1789.
VA Side - Halifax formed 1752, Pittsylvania 1766/67, Henry 1776/77, Patrick 1790/91.
