Lane Genealogy - Marion Co., SC
Welcome to my Lane genealogy pages. I am interested in the Lane surname primarily in Marion Co., SC and environs.
Lane was the 209th most common surname in the United States in 2000. By 2010 it had dropped a little to 216th.
My most recent Lane ancestor is my Great Great Great grandmother Charlotte Lane (1833-1899) wife of Ebenezer Campbell. They lived their lives in Marion Co., SC. Her parents are proven to be:
Alexander Lane (c1790-c1858) and Lucinda (Blackman?), also of Marion Co., SC. His parents are proven to be:
Osborne Lane (1750/55-1840) and Hepsabeth Crawford of Marion Co., SC. Osborne’s parents are unidentified. There were Lanes in his area back to the mid 1700s, when he was born.
DNA evidence links our Lanes with those who originated in Wayne Co., NC and spread out from there. I don’t believe ours came from Wayne, but those in Wayne, and mine in Marion have a common ancestry somewhere further back, perhaps in eastern North Carolina or in Surry Co., VA where we have other DNA matches. Check out the Lane DNA Project and consider participating if you’re a Lane from this line (or any other line).
Marilyn Lane Sirmon wrote an excellent book on the Lane family. Click here for details.
