Roberts Genealogy - NC, GA

Welcome to my Roberts genealogy pages. I am interested in the Roberts families primarily of Western NC, more specifically Surry and Wilkes Counties. (I have another, unrelated Roberts line from Eastern NC and SC.)

Roberts was the 45^th most common surname in the United States in 2000, and 50^th in 2010.

My most recent Roberts ancestor is my 5 times great grandmother Mary Roberts, born ca 1780/84, died ca 1840s in Surry Co., NC. She married John Moody ca 1802 either in NC or Franklin Co., GA. They weren’t in Franklin long, moving (or returning) to Surry Co., NC by 1810. I should point out that Mary’s maiden name isn’t proven. It is based upon circumstantial evidence, mainly in association with the Roberts family and in the naming of some of their children. If Mary is a Roberts, she’s probably a daughter of Olive and Sarah.

Olive Branch Roberts was born ca 1745 and married Sarah Woodson before ca 1766 perhaps in Goochland Co., VA. They lived in Surry Co., NC a few years, then moved into Georgia where he died in 1827, county unknown at this time. Sarah died in 1846.

I do not yet know the parents of Olive B. Roberts. There were other Roberts families in the Surry Co., NC area that may be related to him. I haven’t done enough research on any of them yet to determine anything.
