John Lewis of Eastern NC and SC - Differentiation
[Lewis Home] - [Table of Contents] - John Lewis
Note: This page is a work in progress.
There were numerous men named John Lewis in eastern NC in the 1700s and early 1800s.
I’ve found it necessary to research many of the John Lewises in order to figure out more about those I’m related to. This page is my attempt to distinguish them and provide a “Table of Contents” for them. Each has (or will have) their own page with documentation. The list below is almost certainly incomplete, but covers the counties I’m most interested in. The names are listed chronologically by birth date.
1. John Lewis (c1663-aft 1690) of NC (Chowan) maybe son of Thomas
2. John Lewis (bef 1698-aft 1759) and Elizabeth Bonner of NC (Chowan) son of Richard.
3. John Lewis (c1715-c1765) and Mary — of NC (Chowan)
4. John Lewis (bef 1729-c1790) and Sarah — of NC (Bertie, Hertford Gates). Might be son of Isaac and Margaret of Bertie.
5. John Lewis (bef 1750) of NC (Onslow) son of Matthew & Mary.
6. John William Lewis (c1750s-aft 1793) of SC (Georgetown, Horry)
