Welcome to my Lewis genealogy pages. I am interested in the Lewis surname in certain sections of Virginia. I’m not entirely sure of the specifics yet, though it includes Richmond County and Spotsylvania.

Lewis was the 26^th most common surname in the United States in 2000. By 2010 it had dropped to 29^th.

My most recent Lewis ancestor was my 8 times great grandmother Mary Lewis (1696-1762) who married Joseph Dulaney (Delaney) in Richmond Co., VA. They both died in Orange Co., VA. Mary’s parents are:

Zachary Lewis (no dates) and Mary Walker (d 1725). I don’t know the lineage beyond Zachary yet.

Despite knowing of this branch of my family for several years now, I have only barely begun to research them.

Note that I have another Lewis line in North Carolina and South Carolina, who I would assume are not related to this Lewis line.
