I (Marty Grant) am not related to Bannister Hensley as far as I know.
Bannister Hensley was born ca 1810/11 in Buncombe Co, NC (Now Yancey Co, NC).
I don't know who Bannister Hensleys' parents were. There are several candidates who might be his parents, but not enough proof to make a determination. Somewhere I found Bannister listed as a son of "John Hensley and Susan Mayo", but I don't know what the source of that is, nor who they are supposed to be. There is a John Hensley in the area who is a candidate (see list below).
Bannister Hensley would most likely be home with his parents for the 1820 and 1830 census. In 1820 he should be in the "under 10" category (born ca 1810/20), and in 1830 in the age 15-19 category (c1810/15). That helps narrow down the suspects a little bit, but not enough to come to any conclusions.
In 1820, the following Hensley households had at least one male under age 10, or born ca 1810/20: James Hensley (c1780), John Hensley (c1794/1800), Benjamin Hensley (c1790), Berry Hensley (c1783), and Henry "Harry" Hensley Sr (bef 1755). There is no guarantee that any of these were Bannister's parents, but they should be considered primary suspects.
In 1830, the following Hensley households had at least one male in the age 15-19 category (born ca 1810/15): James Hensley (c1780), J. B. Hensley who is possibly James B. Hensley (c1805), William A. Hensley (1798), John Hensley (c1794/1800) and Henry Hensley (c1781).
There may be some clues to Bannister's parentage (or at least his possible siblings) based on two of his children's names. He named one son "Silas B. Hensley", and this could be in honor of Silas A. Hensley, who is about the same age as Bannister, so a possible brother. Another child was named "Bacchus S. Hensley", and it may be no coincidence that William M. Hensley (c1810) named a son "Bacchus S. Hensley" just eight years later. Or then again, it could be coincidence.
Bannister Hensley married Jane --- ca 1830/33 in Buncombe or Yancey Co, NC. I don't know what the source is, but her maiden name is listed as "Briggs" by some.
In 1833, Yancey County was formed from part of Buncombe, including where the Hensley family resided.
Bannister Hensley was listed on the 1840 census in Yancey Co, NC next to William A. Hensley (1798), who is a son of Henry Hensley (bef 1755). Bannister's neighbor on the other side was Abram Carter. There were other Hensley's on the same page as well, though several households away.

Bannister Hensley and family were still in Yancey for the 1850 census, and were listed near many other Hensley's, including Fielding Hensley (c1813), 6 houses away; Silas A. Hensley (c1816), 7 houses away; and Henry Hensley Sr (c1781), 13 houses away. Bannister's next door neighbors were Daniel Fender and Wiley Fender.

Bannister Hensley died sometime between 1850 and 26 Apr 1853, for on that latter date, in Yancey County Court, his widow Jane Hensley was given her years allowance as his widow. (From Yancey Co, NC Court Minutes, thanks to Sandra Fender for sharing this record)
Sometime after Bannister's death, his widow Jane remarried. She married Hezekiah Lewis, who was also widowed (first wife named "Elender"). The Lewis family was just a few houses from the Hensleys in 1850.
Hezekiah and Jane were listed on the 1860 census in Yancey Co, NC, with two of her Hensley children residing with them (John and Martha).

Hezekiah Lewis must have died before 1880, for Jane was listed in Yancey Co, NC census that year with son Bacchus Hensley, though she was listed as "Hensley" again, and widowed. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
I have no additional data on this family beyond this point.
Bannister and Jane had at least seven children per the 1850 census.
Louisa Hensley was born ca 1832/33 in Yancey Co, NC. She was apparently home with her parents for the 1840 census (age 5-9, born ca 1830/35), and still home in 1850 ("Louisa" age 17). She was not home with her mother in 1860, so probably married or dead by then. I found no marriage record for her in Yancey County.
Harriett Hensley was born ca 1835/36 in Yancey Co, NC. She was apparently home with her parents for the 1840 census (age "under 5", born ca 1835/40), and still home in 1850 ("Harriett" age 14). She was not home with her mother in 1860, so probably married or dead by then.
I found a marriage record for Harriett Hensley and William H. Lewis dated 31 Jul 1853 in Yancey County, NC. William was born ca 1829/30 in North Carolina.
I don't have them on the 1860 or 1870 census yet, but they were in Yancey for the 1880 census. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
Naomi Hensley was born ca 1836/37 in Yancey Co, NC. She was apparently home with her parents for the 1840 census (age "under 5", born ca 1835/40), and still home in 1850 ("Naomi" age 13). She was not home with her mother in 1860, so probably married or dead by then.
I found a marriage record for her in Yancey County, or at least I think it is her. "Omy M. Hensley" married Isom Fender on 3 Jul 1853. "Omy" is a nickname for "Naomi", so this is probably her.
John W. Hensley was born ca 1838/39 in Yancey Co, NC. He was apparently home with his parents for the 1840 census (age "under 5", born ca 1835/40), and still home in 1850 ("John W." age 11). He was still home with his mother in 1860 ("John" age 21), also listed as "Idiot" in 1860.

In 1880 he was living with his brother Bacchus Hensley and their mother Jane in Yancey County. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
Bacchus S. Hensley was born ca 1841/42 in Yancey Co, NC. He was home with his parents in 1850 ("Bacckus S." age 8). I did not find him in 1860 census.

In 1880 he was head of household in Yancey County, with his brother John and their mother Jane with them. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
Silas B. Hensley was born ca 1844/45 in Yancey Co, NC. He was home with his parents in 1850 ("Silas B." age 5).
In 1860, Silas was living next door to his mother, with the Samuel Wilson family, relationship unknown.

Silas B. Hensley married Martha J. --- between 1860 and ca 1867 in Yancey Co, NC (no record found). Martha was born ca 1857/58, I don't know her maiden name.

Martha J. Hensley was born ca 1847/48 in Yancey Co, NC. She was home with her parents in 1850 ("Martha J." age 2), and still home in 1860 ("Martha J." age 12).
