Henry Jones is a potential ancestor of mine, but I don’t know for certain that I’m even related to him. He could be the father of my ancestor Tabitha Jones Davis (c1810-1860s) but that is far from proven. The main reason I suspect a connection is that he lived in the same section of the county as Tabitha. If related at all, it’s probably more likely he’s an uncle and not her father since he appears to have left the area about seven years before she was born.

Henry Jones was born before ca 1789, assuming he was at least 14 in 1803 when he acted as a chain carrier for a surveyor. I don’t know where he was born, whether in the Brunswick County region or not.

I suspect Willis Jones and James Jones and Henry Jones are closely related as they lived in the same area and were associated with the same people and vanished from the records at the same time (1803).

I didn’t find Henry Jones on the 1790 or 1800 census in Brunswick Co., NC.

On 5 Sep 1803, Henry Jones and James Keith were chain bearers for a survey made for William Keith Senr for 200 acres of land between Dans Creek and a branch of Livingston Creek. This record shows that Henry Jones lived in the very same area as my Tabitha Jones Davis, as well as James Jones (1765/74) who could be his father. Two men named William Keith were listed very near James Jones on the 1800 census.

James Jones vanished from Brunswick County ca 1803, and it appears Henry did as well. He was not listed there on the 1810 census.

I checked the 1810 census for Henry Jones listings anywhere, knowing that was a shot in the dark. There are 92 of them listed, though most are in very unlikely places for ours to have gone. A few were found in Kentucky, South Carolina and western North Carolina. I don’t know if any are the same one from Brunswick Co., NC.

Children

I have no information on any children for Henry Jones. I do suspect he’s related to my ancestor Tabitha Jones Davis (c1810), but I don’t believe he’s her father.
