I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to Lewis Jenkins, but I'm sure he is somehow closely related to my ancestor Osborne Jenkins (c1803). In fact, I believe he is Osborne's father, but I have no direct proof of that yet. If that connection turns out to be true, then Lewis and Sarah (Beasley) Jenkins are my 5th Great Grandparents.
There were several men named Lewis Jenkins in Onslow County. In the late 1700's up to ca 1809, there were at least three different Lewis Jenkins' in the county, so during that time period it may be difficult to tell which was which in the various public records. The two older ones used "Sr" and "Jr" to distinguish themselves from each other. When the Lewis Jenkins documented here came of age, he seemed to not use any additional designation other than "Lewis Jenkins", however there is still quite a possibility that some of the records will get mixed up between them all. See the pages for Lewis Jenkins (c1710), Lewis Jenkins (c1735) and Lewis Jenkins (c1755) for a complete list of records for the various Lewis Jenkins.
Lewis Jenkins was born ca 1770/74 (per census analysis), presumably in Onslow County, North Carolina. I base his approximate birth date on his census entries. In 1800 he was 26-44 (born ca 1755/74), and in 1810 he was still 26-44 (1765/84). Those two narrow his birth down to ca 1765/74. In 1820 he was 45+ or born before 1775. In 1830 he was 50-59, or born ca 1770/80. All combined I come up with ca 1770-1774 for his approximate birth date.
I haven't yet been able to identify Lewis' parents. There were several Jenkins in Onslow when he was born, any one of which could be his parents. Census analysis below shows some possibilities.
Lewis Jenkins would have been about 12 to 16 years old by the time of the 1786 state census. That would put him in the "under 21" age group (born ca 1765/86). There were several Jenkins listed with sons "under 21" (born 1766/87) including: Henry Jenkins, Joshua Jenkins, Lewis Jenkins, and William Jenkins. Any of these could be Lewis' parents.
Lewis Jenkins would have been about 16 to 20 years old by the time of the 1790 census, so he could be enumerated in the "under 16" age group (born 1774/90) or in the 16+ age group (born before 1774). None of the four Jenkins listed had an "extra" male aged 16 and up, but two of them had one or more apparent sons under 16, including: Joshua Jenkins and Lewis Jenkins Jr.
On 20 Mar 1794 Lewis Jinkins obtained a marriage bond in Onslow to marry Sarah Beazley (usually spelled "Beasley"). John Jinkins was bondsman. This was probably John Jenkins (1770/75), possibly Lewis' brother. Sarah Beasley was born ca 1770/75. I don't know who her parents were.
For the 1800 census, Lewis Jenkins was listed in Onslow County. He was not listed near any other Jenkins.

On 3 Jun 1825 Joseph M. Ennett sold Lewis Jenkins some land for only $4 land that fell to him from his mother (not named). Witnesses were: Joseph Ennett Jr and Thomas Ennett. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 16 page 28, from Records of Onslow County, North Carolina, Vol II by Zae Harget Gwynn, and all subsequent deeds cited on this page are from this book, except for those in Deed Books 23 and later which I abstracted myself from the original Deed Books).
On 9 Dec 1829 Lewis Jenkins and John King witnessed a deed from Dedra Aman to Lavina Jenkins. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 18 page 167).
Lewis Jenkins was listed on the 1830 census in Onslow Co, NC. He was two houses from my ancestor Osborne Jenkins (c1803) and near several other Jenkins as well including John Jenkins (1770/75). Lewis was listed as "Sr" but no other Lewis Jenkins were listed on the census, and "Sr" was normally only used to distinguish an older person from a younger of the same name. The only other "Lewis" in the county then (as far as I'm aware) was Lewis Jenkins (c1815) son of Lavina Aman Jenkins. He would only be 15 then, but certainly could be the one older Lewis was trying to distinguish himself from.

On 23 Feb 1833 Lewis Jenkins and David Gornto witnessed a deed from Lavina Webb to Gardner Shepard. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 20 page 171)
In 1835 (no exact date) Lewis Jenkins and Solomon Littleton witnessed a deed from Elizabeth Webb to Gardner Shepard. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 21 page 311)
On 20 May 1836 Lewis Jenkins and David Gornto and David Ward witnessed a deed from Lavina Webb to Gardner Shepard. (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book 21 page 364)
Lewis Jenkins did not appear on the 1840 census, so he probably was dead by then. The 1836 deed was the last I found for him, so he must have died ca 1836-1840.
Sarah Beasley Jenkins may have still been living in 1840, but she was not listed on the census. However, two Jenkins' households had an unidentified female her age with them (born 1770/80). Lavina Aman Jenkins (c1790) had a female with her in 1840 who was Sarah's age. Osborne Jenkins (c1803) also had a female Sarah's age with him in 1840. Either of these could be Sarah Beasley Jenkins, or perhaps neither of them are.
Lewis Jenkins and Sarah Beasley had several children per the various census records. None are positively identified yet.
Benjamin Jenkins (c1798) fits here age-wise, but I don't think he is Lewis' son, though he certainly could be. Otherwise I have no suspects for who this son of Lewis Jenkins is.
I don't know who this might have been.
I didn't find any applicable marriage records in this time period, so I don't know who this daughter may have married.
This could be Osborne Jenkins (c1803) or George H. Jenkins (c1803). They are the only two suspects. Osborne named one of his sons "Lewis", so that makes him a better suspect in my opinion.
I didn't find any Jenkins who fit here, but I did find one who was close but not an exact match: Benjamin W. Jenkins (c1819).
I don't know who this daughter could have been.
