Jones Families of Brunswick Co., NC

[Jones Home] - Jones Families (Table of Contents to Family Pages)

I’ve created hand made family pages for some of my ancestors, relatives and potential relatives. See the list below for the pages I’ve created. I also have my family data available in an online tree that can be searched, browsed, etc. Click here to access the online tree.

Brunswick Co., NC

My ancestor: Tabitha Jones (c1810-1860s) and Cornelius Davis

Notes: I have not yet researched all early Jones families in Brunswick, only those that lived in the north western section of the county primarily in the section that became Columbus County in the 1870s who are potentially related to mine. I’ve made note of the other early ones in Brunswick that I’ve come across.

           A. B. Jones (1765/1784-aft 1810) on 1810 census in Brunswick. Residing alone.

Allen Jones (c1803/15-aft 1840). Near Cornelius Davis in 1840.

Benjamin A. Jones (1819-1902) and Sarah Herndon of Brunswick, Columbus and New Hanover Co., NC.

Benjamin A. Jones (c1821-aft 1880) and Elizabeth — of Brunswick and Columbus Co., NC. Benjamin’s age fluctuates from census to census 22 in 1860 (c1838), 51 in 1870 (c1819) and 59 in 1880 (c1821). Those last two are close enough together.

Charles Jones (1774/84-aft 1800) on 1800 census in Brunswick.

David Jones (c1818-aft 1870) and Ann --- of Brunswick and Columbus Co., NC.

Ellis Jones (c1828) and Anne — of Brunswick Co., NC.

Ezekiel Jones (c1803/15-aft 1840). Near Cornelius Davis in 1840.

Frederick Jones (d aft 1781) of Brunswick Co., NC.

Hartford Jones (c1810 CT-aft 1850 Horry Dist., SC) and Frances —. Of Brunswick Co., NC and Horry Co., SC.

Helen C. (Simmons?) Jones (1823-aft 1900) and — Jones. Is listed on 1850 census in Waccamaw District, Brunswick County apparently widowed, with Benjamin Simmons (c1779 SC) and Mary (c1780 NC), her parents or grandparents perhaps? Had son James P. Jones (1848-1914). Helen is in Columbus in 1860, not found in 1870, in Columbus with son James in 1880 and 1900.

Henry Jones (bef 1789-aft 1803) of Brunswick Co., NC (now Columbus Co., NC).

Isaac Jones (bef 1792-aft 1810) of Brunswick Co., NC (now Columbus Co., NC).

Ivey Jones (c1819-1854) and Elizabeth E. ---. Land adjoined Cornelius Davis.

James Jones (1765/74-aft 1803) of Brunswick Co., NC (now Columbus Co., NC).

James Jones (1755/1774-aft 1800) on 1800 census in Brunswick.

James Jones (c1811-aft 1870) and Martha

           Jinsey Jones (c1810-aft 1850)

John Jones (bef 1755-aft 1800) on 1790 census near William Jones. Listed 1800. Not found in 1810.

John Jones (1780/90-c1846) on 1820, 1830, 1840 census. Widow Rachel (c1790) on 1850 census with apparent daughter Ann Atkinson. Rachel was with them in Wilmington, New Hanover Co., NC in 1860. Not found after that.

Joseph Jones (d 1804) resident of town of Smithville. Left a Will (1804) naming wife Mary, sons Joseph Jones, Augustin Jones, Martin Jones and Bartholomew Jones. None of those appeared on the 1790, 1800 or 1810 census in Brunswick Co., NC so must have lived elsewhere. Joseph possibly moved to Brunswick shortly before dying there.

Mary Jones (c1781-aft 1850) an apparent widow listed in Brunswick in 1840 and 1850 in Smithville. I don’t know who her husband was. She had a son with her in 1840 aged 15-19 (born 1820/1825) who might be Lewis Jones (c1820) who was near her in 1850.

Mary E. Jones (1815-1861) wife of Alexander D. McKeithan of Brunswick Co., NC. Mary has an apparent sister Winny A. Jones (1824-1884) who married Mary’s husband after Mary’s death.

Morris Jones (d aft 1783) and wife Elizabeth Davis of Brunswick Co., NC.

Nathan Jones (1775/94-aft 1820) of Brunswick Co., NC.

Sidney A. Jones (c1835-aft 1860) of Brunswick Co., NC. She was with James M. & Absley (Jones) Dail in 1850 (Town Creek) and 1860 (North West District).

Simon Jones (c1752-aft 1850) and Savier — of New Hanover and Brunswick Co., NC.

William Jones (bef 1774-aft 1790) on 1790 census near John Jones. Not found in 1800.

William Watts Jones of New Hanover had 72 (!) slaves listed on 1820 census in Brunswick. He didn’t live in Brunswick as far as I can determine.

William F. Jones (c1823-1860s) and Mary Lehew of Brunswick Co., NC.

Willis Jones (1784/89-aft 1812) of Brunswick Co., NC (now Columbus Co., NC).
